Runs Constantly
Pumping when it has not rained, or never shutting off. Usually a stuck float switch or a failed check valve, and a motor wearing itself out.
The worst time to find out a sump pump has quit is in the middle of a storm with water rising in the basement. NJM installs and replaces pumps, adds battery backups, and fixes where the water gets in, across Nassau and Suffolk County. Flooding calls answered 24/7.

Most pumps give a warning first. These are the ones worth acting on before the next storm.
Pumping when it has not rained, or never shutting off. Usually a stuck float switch or a failed check valve, and a motor wearing itself out.
Silent through a downpour. Pour a bucket of water into the pit: if the pump does not start now, it will not start in a storm either.
Worn bearings or debris in the impeller. A pump that sounds like that is on borrowed time.
Water around the basin after rain means the pump is not keeping up, or not running at all.
Sump pumps do not last forever, and older ones tend to fail without warning. Replacing one before the season beats replacing it during a storm.
A pit full of silt, gravel or rust jams the float and clogs the intake.
Water running back into the pit, or a frozen or crushed outdoor line, means the pump is working hard for nothing.
Water rising in the basement. Keep clear of anything electrical in standing water and call 631-587-0085, 24 hours a day.

Failed or failing pumps replaced with the right new pump, set, connected and tested with water before we leave.
We don’t charge to quote a job. We do charge to find a problem nobody has identified yet. Which one you need — and what it costs — gets agreed on the phone, so nothing about the cost is a surprise on the doorstep.
You get the number on the phone, before anyone is dispatched, and it is what you are charged when the technician arrives. One rate across all four trades — plumbing, heating, cooling and gas.
A licensed, insured technician carrying the certifications the work needs, and the time to find what has actually failed — not a quick look and a guess.
A call-out advertised at almost nothing gets recovered once someone is standing in your basement. Get the number before anyone travels — from us, or from anyone else you call — and hold them to it when they arrive.
A boiler that fails in January is not a purchase anyone planned. Financing is available on the big-ticket work, so a system replacement does not have to come out of savings in one go.
Boiler, furnace and water heater replacement, a full air conditioning system, a whole-house repipe, sewer and water main work, and larger contracting jobs — kitchens, bathrooms, dormers and extensions.
At the estimate, before anything is scheduled. It is worth asking even if you think you will not need it, because knowing it is there changes what you are willing to consider fixing properly.
The price of the job. The quote is the quote whether you finance it or not — and on a straightforward repair it is usually not worth the paperwork. We will tell you which one you are looking at.
Straight answers, no upsellA sump pump is a sealed motor sitting in a pit of water, so most of the time the honest answer is replacement, not repair. But a stuck float, a jammed intake or a bad check valve can be fixed, and if that is all it is, that is what we will do.
If the motor is going, replace it before the storm finds out for you. And if the pump keeps failing, or simply cannot keep up, a bigger pump is rarely the fix. We find out why: a silted pit, a discharge line running back, or water coming through the foundation. Then we fix that with a battery backup, waterproofing or foundation work, so the new pump is not the next one to quit.
What it says on the coupon is what comes off the bill. Mention it when you call.
The time to find out a sump pump has failed is not during the storm.

Usually replace. A sump pump is a sealed motor, so a failing one is rarely worth rebuilding. A stuck float, a jammed intake or a bad check valve can be fixed, and we will tell you which one you have.
Yes. We cut the basement floor, dig the pit, install the pump and run the discharge line out of the house. Call 631-587-0085 for a free estimate.
If your basement has ever flooded, or the power on your street goes out in storms, yes. The main pump stops the moment the power does, which is usually the worst moment. A battery backup keeps the water moving until it comes back.
Often not. If water is coming in faster than a working pump can clear it, the fix is where it gets in. NJM does basement waterproofing and foundation repair as well, so one visit finds the cause and one team fixes it.
Yes. NJM is also a general contractor, so the drywall, flooring and finishes are put back by our own team rather than a second company.

Called Neil on the spur of the moment on a Saturday afternoon because my bathroom sink backed up and when I plunged it nothing but black water came up. I really opened up Pandora's box. Neil was able to come same day and fix the problem. Glad I had his number handy.

As always, Neil is a pleasure to have as my plumber. He is so professional and knowledgeable. I wouldn't use anyone else! I highly, highly recommend him.

Most recently, Neil came to my house to look at an issue I was having with the plumbing of my pool heater. Despite being very busy, he squeezed my job in. This morning he came by early to give everything a test. No surprise, it works perfectly. Thank you Neil!!!
