Boiler Repair & Maintenance Across Nassau & Suffolk County

Boilers rarely fail without warning. They make a noise nobody investigates, or lose pressure that gets topped up without asking why, or heat one end of the house better than the other for a whole winter. By the time there is no heat at all, the failure has usually been signalling for months.

NJM repairs and services boilers of every major brand for homes and businesses across Long Island, and we answer emergency calls 24 hours a day, every day of the year. In January that is not a convenience — a house without heat becomes a house with frozen pipes, and the second problem costs considerably more than the first.

What We Do

Boiler Repair & Maintenance

Emergency Repair

No heat is answered 24 hours a day, every day of the year — including nights, weekends and holidays.

Annual Service

Combustion, controls, safeties, pressure, circulators and the heat exchanger checked before the season rather than during it.

Circulators & Zone Valves

The components behind most uneven-heat complaints, replaced without touching the boiler itself.

Expansion Tanks & Relief Valves

The usual culprits behind pressure loss and weeping around the unit.

Controls & Thermostats

Aquastats, thermostats and zone controls diagnosed and replaced.

System Balancing

Getting heat to the rooms that never quite got it, which is usually a distribution problem rather than a boiler one.

All Major Brands

Gas and oil boilers of every major make, plus Navien NSS certification for condensing equipment.

Commercial Boilers

Service and repair for Long Island businesses and multi-family buildings.

Heating — before you call

Two kinds of visit. You’ll know which before we come.

We don’t charge to quote a job. We do charge to find a problem nobody has identified yet. Which one you need — and what it costs — gets agreed on the phone, so nothing about the cost is a surprise on the doorstep.

Estimate visitNo charge

You already know what you want done

A boiler replaced, a bathroom rebuilt, a gas line run. We come out, look at the job and give you a number.

No obligation
Diagnostic visitQuoted on the call

Something has failed and nobody knows why

A licensed technician and the time to find what has actually gone wrong. One rate across plumbing, heating, cooling and gas, and one number to reach us on — there is no separate line to find at midnight. You get the figure before anyone is dispatched, and after-hours, weekend and holiday work is quoted the same way.

The rate you are told is the rate

You get the number on the phone, before anyone is dispatched, and it is what you are charged when the technician arrives. One rate across all four trades — plumbing, heating, cooling and gas.

What it pays for

A licensed, insured technician carrying the certifications the work needs, and the time to find what has actually failed — not a quick look and a guess.

Watch for the bait and switch

A call-out advertised at almost nothing gets recovered once someone is standing in your basement. Get the number before anyone travels — from us, or from anyone else you call — and hold them to it when they arrive.

Financing on larger jobs

A boiler that fails in January is not a purchase anyone planned. Financing is available on the big-ticket work, so a system replacement does not have to come out of savings in one go.

What it is normally used for

Boiler, furnace and water heater replacement, a full air conditioning system, a whole-house repipe, sewer and water main work, and larger contracting jobs — kitchens, bathrooms, dormers and extensions.

When to bring it up

At the estimate, before anything is scheduled. It is worth asking even if you think you will not need it, because knowing it is there changes what you are willing to consider fixing properly.

What it does not change

The price of the job. The quote is the quote whether you finance it or not — and on a straightforward repair it is usually not worth the paperwork. We will tell you which one you are looking at.

Financing provided throughSynchronyCredit is extended by Synchrony. Subject to credit approval.

Common Faults

What Usually Goes Wrong

Most boiler calls fall into one of these. Recognising yours tells you roughly what the visit involves.

PROBLEM 01

No Heat At All

No response from the thermostat. Often a failed control, a tripped safety, an ignition fault or a circulator that has stopped. Frequently inexpensive, but not something to leave in a cold snap.

PROBLEM 02

Losing Pressure

A boiler that needs topping up repeatedly is losing water somewhere — a leak, a failed expansion tank or a relief valve passing. Topping it up without finding out why introduces fresh oxygenated water, which corrodes the system from the inside.

PROBLEM 03

Banging Or Kettling

Rumbling or banging usually means scale on the heat exchanger or trapped air. It is the sound of a system working harder than it should, and it gets worse rather than better.

PROBLEM 04

Some Rooms Cold

Uneven heat is usually distribution, not the boiler — air in the system, a failed zone valve or circulator, or unbalanced zones. Replacing the boiler will not fix it.

PROBLEM 05

Short-Cycling

Firing and shutting off repeatedly. Can mean an oversized boiler, a control fault or poor circulation. It wastes fuel and shortens the life of the unit.

PROBLEM 06

Pilot Or Ignition Failure

Failing to light, or lighting and dropping out. Thermocouples, igniters and flame sensors are common and usually straightforward.

PROBLEM 07

Leaking Around The Boiler

Water on the floor near the unit may be a fitting, a relief valve or the boiler itself. Which one it is changes the answer completely, so it is worth diagnosing rather than assuming the worst.

PROBLEM 08

Radiators Cold At The Top

Classic trapped air. Often solved by bleeding, but a system that repeatedly fills with air has an underlying cause worth finding.

Common Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

My boiler keeps losing pressure. Is that serious?

It means water is leaving the system somewhere — a leak, a failed expansion tank, or a relief valve passing. The important part is that repeatedly topping it up makes things worse: every refill brings fresh oxygenated water into the system, and that accelerates corrosion. Worth diagnosing rather than living with.

Why is my boiler banging or rumbling?

Usually scale build-up on the heat exchanger or air trapped in the system. Both make the boiler work harder than it should, and neither improves on its own. It is a good early-warning sign — dealt with now it is a service call, left alone it becomes a replacement.

Some radiators are cold. Do I need a new boiler?

Almost certainly not. Uneven heat is nearly always distribution — trapped air, a failed circulator or zone valve, or zones that were never balanced. A new boiler will heat the same rooms the same way. Since we handle both the heating and the plumbing, fixing the distribution is the same team and a fraction of the cost.

How often should a boiler be serviced?

Once a year, before the heating season starts. Most of the no-heat calls we take in January trace back to something a service in September or October would have caught — a dirty burner, a failing circulator, a control drifting out of range.

Do you charge a service call fee?

Yes, for a diagnostic visit — one rate across all four trades, and you get the figure on the phone before anyone is dispatched. Emergency, after-hours, weekend and holiday calls are quoted the same way.

Do you work on oil boilers as well as gas?

Both. Plenty of Long Island homes still run on oil, and we service and repair oil-fired boilers alongside gas and high-efficiency condensing units.

When is a boiler no longer worth repairing?

A cracked heat exchanger or a failed section on a cast iron boiler is a replacement, not a repair — that is a safety matter as much as an economic one. Repeated annual breakdowns usually cost more across three years than replacing would. A well-maintained older boiler with one failed control is generally worth fixing, and we will say so.

Do you answer at night?

Yes, without qualification — 24 hours a day, every day of the year, including nights, weekends and holidays. No heat in January is exactly the call we staff for. 631-587-0085.

Couldn't be happier with NJM Mechanical and Neil. I needed a new Navien wall mounted gas combination boiler. He showed up on Friday afternoon to diagnose and was at my house at 7am the very next morning on a Saturday throwing in my new Boiler. They didn't charge Emergency Service rates and they beat their competitors price by over $500!

Neil was great and takes the time to explain everything in detail including the pricing. Used him and his company for a Navien tankless install and he got it done in 2 days staying late each day to ensure that we had heat and hot water on the second day. Would recommend him and his company wholeheartedly
